The story

From dream to
reality

In the autumn of 2017 we started preparing for our great Italian adventure. Our ultimate goal was to buy a house near Lake Iseo and to do it up, just the two of us, into a lovely holiday home.

We had been toying with the idea of doing something different for a long time. After our studies we both went to work in an office, and after a while we both got the feeling (entirely in the style of the millennial generation) that something was missing. Gradually the idea for the Italian house took shape, and once we had told our friends and family about our plans, it suddenly became very real. We're doing this!

In August 2019 the moment arrived: we bought our Italian dream house! Barely two months later we set off. For twelve months we worked incredibly hard. The house, which had stood uninhabited for fifteen years, with moss growing on the walls and a roof leaking in at least fifteen places, was transformed into a fantastic place to thoroughly enjoy.

Apart from the roof, we renovated everything ourselves. We built two bathrooms and a large kitchen-living room with a concrete worktop we cast ourselves. With the help of a few DIY courses and a great many YouTube videos, we learned plastering, tiling, plumbing, floor levelling, laying floors, installing drainage, bricklaying, fitting double glazing, felling trees, replacing electrics, and many more skills we never thought we would master ourselves.

What an enormous job it was to turn this ruin into our dream house! At times we thought: what have we got ourselves into, and how could we have underestimated this so badly? And now we think: how amazing it was, and how proud we are. It was all more than worth it! We have built a wonderful house. We love sharing it and hope you enjoy it too!
